Friends: This is a vital week for Students for Sensible Drug Policy! The Senate HELP Committee, which Hillary Clinton is on, is reviewing the Higher Education Act this week, which includes the Aid Elimination Penalty. This penalty strips students with drug convictions of their federal financial aid . This is the reason why SSDP was formed in 1998 and this is the first time it's been up for review in the past 9 years! What you can do: Call Hillary's office! It takes 2 minutes (I timed it) and will most definitely make a difference. First, dial the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask for Hillary Clinton's office. Then, you will be transferred to her receptionist. She will ask for your name and address, then you can tell her why you're calling. She's not going to ask you detailed questions or anything about it, she just takes a tally of how many people call. So you can say something like: "My name is... and I live in.... When the HELP Committee revises the Higher Education Act soon, I hope that Senator Clinton will make sure to get rid of the harmful law that takes away financial aid from college students with drug convictions. This law causes more, not less, drug abuse by blocking access to education." And that's it! After that if you like you can send Hillary a follow-up letter at www.SchoolsNotPrisons.com. SSDP changed a provision of this law last year, and with your help we can most definitely get it repealed! If this is the one thing you do for SSDP all year, this is it! Thanks!! -Lila
